| Research shows that
Dr. de Bono’s ‘CoRT Thinking Programme’ can achieve
a 50% improvement in standardised tests. The most compelling characteristics
of this approach to thinking are that the tools are simple to learn,
practical and effective in use, enabling the user to apply them
to a range of situations.
Simple and Practical
This is a core principle which runs through the
way in which the de Bono techniques have been developed - both for
schools and for business. It is this combination of simple and practical
which means that they can be trained at all ability levels and at
all ages from 5 up. This straightforward approach significantly
influences their effectiveness and ease of implementation.
The de Bono techniques take a “toolbox”
approach. Just as a carpenter would choose different tools from
his toolbox and use them in different sequences depending on the
job in hand, so would a child use appropriate tools in thinking
about a particular issue, or generating ideas. This approach develops
effective operating skills. The range of tools available includes
the CoRT Thinking Tools named after the Cognitive Research Trust
set up by Dr. Edward the Bono and Six Thinking Hats ®
