| Edward de Bono is
a pioneer in the field of the teaching of thinking in education.
He first wrote the CoRT program in 1972. This program is one of
the most widely used programs throughout the world for the direct
teaching of thinking as a curriculum subject. It is used in the
USA, China, Russia, Venezuela, United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia,
Australia, New Zealand, and in many other countries. This widespread
use of Dr de Bono’s material across different nationalities
and cultures is due to the simplicity and robustness of the material.
The material can be used by teachers with widely different backgrounds
and qualifications.
Dr. de Bono was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University
and has held faculty appointments at the universities at Oxford,
Cambridge, London, and Harvard. He has written sixty books in the
general area of thinking. There are translations into thirty-five
languages including Japanese, Hebrew, Finnish, Russian and Urdu.
The Six Thinking Hats ® method is based on Dr. de
Bono’s very extensive experience in the field of the direct
teaching of thinking across different ages and abilities, ranging
from six-year-olds to senior corporate executives. It is Dr. de
Bono’s belief that simple methods used effectively are more
valuable than complicated methods that are difficult to understand
and confusing to use.
